Eero Arnio
The Bubble Chair was created by Eero Aarnio. It’s design dates back to 1968 and that makes it even more surprising and fascinating. According to Eero’s notes, original the Bubble chair was hung from the ceiling because ‘there’s no nice way to make a clear pedestal.’ He is well known for his plastic and fiberglass chairs. Eero Aarnio was born in Helsinki, Finland. He studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts, before he began his own interior/industrial design office in 1962. For his earlier designs, such as his basket chair Jattujakkare; Aarnio used natural materials. His most popular design, the Ball Chair (designed in 1962) which is a hollow sphere made of plastic, with an opening on one side that has a padded interior and a seat. In 1968, Eero Aarnio won the American Industrial Design Award for the Plastil Chair, which is a curved, organic design made of fiberglass, and floats on water. Many of his designs are humorous and interesting. A few are; the Pony Chair and The Tipi [which is a chair made in the shape of a bird]. He combined the Scandinavian tradition of simplicity with innovative use of materials, and created furniture designs that are sculptural yet functional. His designs went on to become iconic in popular culture during the 1960s, and his works are held in several museum collections, such as;
- The Victoria and Albert Museum in London,
- The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, and
- The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
History and inspiration of the hanging bubble chair
As a young boy Eero Aarnio was fascinated with soap bubbles. In the city, he had never made one. But on escaping the war to the countryside, he remembered blowing huge soap bubbles from a barn. The bubbles would take off with the wind and drift far away into the fields. The image of a field filled with transparent soap bubbles stuck with him and never left. After the success of the Ball Chair, Eero carried on designing again with functionalism as his goal. The ball chair seemed to be a perfect hiding place from the outside world; but Eero later discovered that reading in the Ball chair was not ideal. There was not enough light inside this chair. So, he came up with all kinds of ideas on how to let in light inside the Ball Chair… including an experiment with a small window in it. After various efforts, he wondered if the shell could be made of transparent material. At first, he drew the shell to consist of two halves; joined together with a seam. He came to the conclusion that it would probably work, but the look would not be what the he desired. The family had half-round acrylic ceiling windows at their home, and he started to wonder, how are they actually made? Eero Aarnio grabbed the yellow pages and under the occupation listings found a company, which produced ceiling windows. He called them and simply asked how the windows are made, and if his idea could work. Alas, the idea was possible! Acrylic can be heated and blown into shape, just like a soap bubble. He was later faced with another problem. With a shell made of acrylic, how would one fasten the shell to the pedestal? The structures would be too complex to work with, and the aesthetics would be totally different. There was really no nice way to attach the shell to a leg. He then came up with the idea of fixing it to the ceiling. The final sketch was done in 1968. Now, one won’t run out of light reading in the Bubble Chair, it’s flooding with natural light from all directions. When it came to using a chain to suspend the bubble chair, the decision was easy for Eero. A metal chain was by far the strongest in his eyes. Presenting the Bubble to Asko Furniture Company, they were very excited from the beginning. At this time, the Ball Chair had already gained a lot of momentum around the world, and the Bubble received high praise by the public as well.
Features of the hanging bubble chair with a stand
It shares the same peculiar acoustics as the Ball Chair. The hanging bubble chair comes in 3 variants;
- The classic hanging bubble chair, attached to the ceiling.
- The hanging bubble chair with a pedestal.

We would love to talk about all 3, but since we only have the hanging bubble chair with a stand in stock; we would only tell you about that. The other 2 are amazing works of art, and we can’t wait to get them. The chair represents one of the most innovative uses of plastic in designing furniture pieces. It is held by a half-ring shaped steel pipe and a base. The bubble chair is attached to the stand with the use of a metal chain. This way, you can sit and it and swing. It gives the same feeling as sitting in the classic bubble chair suspended from the ceiling. One of the best things about this chair is the ergonomic sitting position it encourages.

You could vacuum the inside of the bubble chair and the cushions. If a drink or liquid gets spilled on or in the bubble chair, remove the cushions, and wash it with warm soapy water

Eero Aarnio
The egg pod chair was designed by a Finnish designer- Eero Aarnio. After starting a solo career in the beginning of the 1960s, he was still an obscure designer who aspired to create a furniture piece he would be remembered for. He had always been thrilled by boats and had familiarized himself with a new invention used in the shipping industry- fiberglass. He imagined if he could use this material for furniture. Eero knew that the best form for malleable plastic is a curve. But a closed ball would withstand anything. He found the most practical use for this novel material he was working with. The Aarnios also needed a chair at home, which would be large enough for all four of the family [him and his wife Pirkko, and their two daughters], to sit together in. Even though functionality was always his first aim, Eero Aarnio is no ordinary designer. He said to his wife: “I will make a chair that when it is put in a shop window, no one will just walk past it.” He had always loved to provoke emotions and cause a stir with his designs.
The egg pod chair vs ball chair
The egg pod chair is not to be confused with the ball chair [read here]. Though both are creations of Eero Aarnio and share a number of similarities. The differences come in when you look at their respective shapes. The ball chair is a sphere, while the egg pod chair is egg-like [oval] and has more head room and space. The ball chair was created before the egg pod chair. So, the latter draws a number of ideas from it. The exterior of the chair was designed in the shape of an egg shell whose front has been carved out to deliver a nest-like space. It’s like a room in a room – your very own ‘pod‘ – and protects the user from outside interference (mostly noise) while providing a relaxing place to sit down and do your thing. Its privacy is one of its most amazing qualities.
Features of the egg pod chair
Its external shell is made from glossy laminate Fiberglass. The interior fabric is made from cashmere. The egg pod interior has luxurious cushion padding and a bearing swivel system for ease of turning. It comes with a stereo, and amplifier. You could plug in your devices, to enjoy your favorite tunes, from the comfort of your seat. Available colors are: Red, white, orange, green, black, and blue. But we currently have it in black, blue green, and red. You could also order a custom color, to you taste. All chairs come with white exterior. Finally, it requires no assembly. Once you get it home, you are good to go!
What does it feel like to sit in it?
This amazing masterpiece tastefully blends art and science. You are guaranteed to have your privacy while relaxing in the egg pod chair. It has a strong base made from molded aluminum, so you are never going to wonder if the chair would fall off. The interior upholstery is top tier. And the cashmere material holds and relaxes your body gently, as you sit in. You could work from it, watch the TV, read a book, have a conversation, or even sleep. You have all the space and comfort to do whatever you please.
Where can you place it?
The egg pod chair is an indoor chair. And it is perfect for bedrooms or contemporary living spaces. You could keep it in your bedroom, office or shaded patio. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions.
What can you pair with it?
You could pair the egg pod chair with an ottoman. There are also a number of tables that would go well with it. When it comes to sofas, you could pair the egg pod chair with the chesterfield sofa, or the marshmallow sofa.
Cleaning and maintaining it
There are principally two ways to take care of ball chair. First, you could just use your vacuum to remove any dust that has settled on the ball chair’s face. Second, you can wash it with water and cleaner. Eero Aarnio ball chair is made from polyurethane and thus it’s veritably easy to clean. Still, drop it with warm soapy water; or you could also use non-abrasive dishwashing liquid mixed with lukewarm water, if the ball chair has been exposed to some dirt and needs drawing further completely. Wash off using cold tap water, and allow to drip dry.
What to consider before you buy one
Nearly 50 years after, the egg pod chair remains an icon of its own. Although its design is readily appreciated, there are a few things you should consider before you buy one:
Size: The size of the Egg Pod chair is not exactly suited for small spaces. So, it’s always recommended to consider the size of your space before you make the final purchase.
Aesthetic: Another thing that you should consider before buying the Egg Pod chair is if it matches your overall home ambience. You cannot put something so futuristic in a classic or vintage theme. So, make sure that your room is capable of highlighting and complementing its character before you buy it.

It is not just an attractive piece of design but also a functional addition to many homes and offices due to its ergonomic features and beauty.
What’s the inspiration behind the Ball chair?
The ball chair, also known as the Globe chair or ball arm chair; it was created by a Finnish designer named Eero Aarnio. After starting as a freelancer in the beginning of the 1960s, he was still an unknown designer who dreamt of creating a furniture piece that he would be remembered for. What are the features of the ball chair?
The ball chair can rotate 360 degrees, in a swivel-like manner; which is what gives it its ergonomic character. In addition to rotating smoothly, the ball chair also has an adjustable height lever that allows users to adjust the height of the ball chair according to their personal preferences. The comfort of this ball chair stems from its round contours and high backrest for neck support. Eero Aarnio designed ball chair with a ball on top of a metal frame, which is supported by a round base. The ball itself is made from polyurethane and feels very comfortable due to its ergonomic shape. The ball chair is available in many different colors so that it can suit most preferences and interior designs. Since its launch in 1963, ball chair has been a huge success worldwide and is currently being sold by many different retailers. Continue reading here!
A few movies that used the ball chair…
Aarnio’s plan was to create “a room within a room” when he set about its design and if its striking globe-like appearance was enough to make it one of the coolest pieces of furniture around. Till date, the chair has appeared in Dazed and Confused (1993), The Prisoner TV series (1967-1968), Tommy (1975), and Mars Attacks! (1996).
Who needs the ball chair?
People who experience discomfort after long hours spent sitting in hard-backed traditional office chairs with fixed seats & armrests.
People who want to improve their posture at work.
Those looking relieve stress on their lower back & joints.
People with back or joint problems ball chairs are very expensive, which is the reason you need to be choosy when selecting one for your home.
How to use the ball chair?
The ball chair by Eero Aarnio works by allowing you to sit in an ergonomically correct position, putting less strain on your back. It also helps to improve posture when sitting for long periods of time at a desk or in front of the computer. However, no ball chair will help if it is not used correctly! For this reason, make sure you follow these instructions when using ball chairs:
To start with, choose the right size ball. A ball that is too big will have more surface area touching the floor and may result in you tipping over backwards when seated on it; conversely, choosing one which is too small or under-filled may mean that you are forced into an over-extended posture. Think about this: when sitting on a ball chair, your thighs should be parallel with the floor and your back should be straight. Your head, neck and shoulders should be in line with the rest of your spine; if not, you will feel discomfort!
Make sure that ball chairs are used correctly at home, the office or in the classroom by following these instructions:
a) Sit on ball chair so that it is directly under your pelvis Press feet firmly into ground and tilt pelvis forward to flatten ball against pelvic rim.
b) Allow lower back to gently curve inward while bracing abdominal muscles. Hold position for 30 seconds before slowly returning to start position.
c) To decrease intensity always keep ball close to pelvic rim. To increase intensity, move ball further away from pelvis.
d) Relax ball chair once you have achieved the correct position so that your weight is being distributed evenly between ball and floor. Continue reading here!

“Egg Chairs are known for being comfortable and classy, and they come in a variety designs”.
The brain behind the egg chair.
Arne Jacobsen [1902 – 1971] was a Danish architect and furniture designer. He is internationally known for his contributions to architecture and furniture design, especially in the mid-20th century modernist style. He designed many other pieces of furniture including the Ant Chair and The Swan Chair. Arne Jacobsen won the Carlsberg Foundation’s special prize in 1957, which enabled him to spend some time experimenting with principles of high-quality cutting-edge design. It is from this period he conceived his most famous chair [the egg chair] from a simple drawing made on an envelope. And that drawing has birthed one of the greatest chairs ever made.

Let’s talk about this masterpiece chair called the ‘Egg Chair’.
Its defining characteristic comes in the form of sides that curve upwards. But, that’s just the least obvious detail. A lot of contemporary chairs have rotating, swiveling, and tilting functions, which are amazing features. Similarly, egg chairs have stable platforms with hydraulic levers for controlling height. They look like typical office chairs and can fill that role quite nicely. Their back support is exceptional, enabling you to relax while working. The base of the chair is a flat stand for stability and a swivel for a 360 scope of vision. Arne’s egg chair as a whole creates a visual sensation that reaches out and draws you into comfort and relief. The Egg Chair was inspired by an earlier piece of furniture also created by Arne, the Swan chair. Legend says that he actually threw this prototype on the floor one day and it bounced back up at him! Amazing, right? That should tell you how much sturdiness the egg chair packs. The Egg Chair was officially launched at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Exhibition in 1958 where it became a huge success. And till today, it’s still very much sought after.
“Egg chairs help maintain an ergonomic-friendly seating position, with unbeatable comfort”.

Egg chairs tend to be both light but very strong. Earlier models were foam-based because wood or steel could not produce that distinct curvy shape desired. When it comes to recent pieces, they are framed with materials such as fiberglass, steel, plastic, and aluminum. Generally, the furnishing contains layers of polyester or leather. Egg chairs built for outdoor use are upholstered in waterproof materials [leatherette and cashmere] and have rust-resistant metal components. You don’t have to worry about harsh weather elements doing some damage on your chair. Most models have considerable load capacity. Their heavy-duty frames provide superior stability and accommodate kids and adults. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and functional, many egg chairs are also very durable. If you’re looking for a chair that will last, an egg chair is the perfect choice for you.

Egg chairs are versatile.
The appeal also lies in its high versatility. We have talked about this earlier. But we want you give you more details on how and where you can use your egg chair. These chairs are suited to fit all kinds of living or working environments. Egg chairs are known for being visually pleasing as well as comfortable. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and patterns to suit your style. Many people place their egg chairs in living rooms or bedrooms. However, they are mostly used in dorm rooms and studio apartments. For example, if you own a small apartment that needs some extra seating, an egg chair may be the perfect choice. Many people get one to use it as a desk chair, and they make the perfect seat for doing your homework or working at a laptop. Also, because egg chairs tend to lean back more than other types of chairs, they can provide you with a place to cool off once you’re done with work. Egg chairs are particularly suited for smaller rooms, living areas or dens; they can also work well in bedrooms as additional seating. If the room has a limited amount of space, it is best to buy a smaller egg chair. They are incredibly versatile and can be made use of in the home, patio, office terrace, outdoors, on the boat, etc. they could also be matched with a coffee table, or an ottoman [for extra comfort].

Egg chairs are easy to clean and maintain.
The Egg Chair is made of foam over a metal frame. So, make sure that you simply take care not to scratch or puncture its upholstery material, and avoid using it in a very dusty environment or next to a fireplace. The Egg Chair has adjustable [4-spoke] feet which provide stability. We would also advise you not use your egg chair near any equipment, such as a lawn mower, which could cause punctures or tears. If the Egg chair is too dusty (e.g., in an area where dead leaves or debris accumulate), you can clean it with a vacuum; then make sure that particles of dirt do not scratch the upholstery. You can clean the exterior yourself with with warm water and mild soap (dish-washing liquid soap), using a sponge or soft brush to scrub both sides. You should rinse using clean water, and remove excess water by blotting with paper towels. Ensure that no residue of water remains before allowing the chair to dry completely. We do not recommend using chemical cleaning agents on any part of this chair because they might harm the upholstery. Eggs chairs are not advised to be used in harsh conditions (next to pools) where corrosion is an important issue; they can be moved elsewhere (indoors) when not in use. However, even if the Egg chair is brought into a climate-controlled environment, it will remain on outdoor feet, which will contribute to its corrosion. If the feet become corroded, we recommend having them replaced. Read more here!

10 Tips to check Quality Le Corbusier LC2 Loveseat
Le Corbusier’s LC2 Loveseat brings with it a rich, luxurious character that permeates elegance in any modern living room in which it is situated. The LC2 Loveseat is also known as the “LC2 Two Seater Sofa.” When paired with the LC2 Armchair, the coupled chairs make a grand statement in the traditional or modern home. The wealthy design and inviting stature of the modern pieces also make the LC2 Loveseat and the LC2 Chair a sophisticated furnishing to any executive office, lobby or professional waiting room. When buying a LC2 Loveseat for your modern home or business, follow these ten tips and you’ll be able to distinguish a quality two-seater LC2 Loveseat from a poor replica:
1) The LC2 Loveseat is a steel tubular frame. The frame should be made from a quality high gauge steel (grade 304), and should contain chromium plating for rust protection and a strong shine.
2) The chromium plating on the frame of the LC2 two-seater sofa should hide the joints in the chair. If you can see the joints, then it is a poor quality replica.
3) The tubular steel frame of the LC2 Loveseat forms a small, but noticeable wedge on the arms of the sofa. If there is no indent into the arms of the sofa from the steel frame, and the arms are void of a slight “cushiony” bulge, then the sofa is not a quality replica.
4) The support for the two seat cushions of the LC2 Loveseat should be tight fabric bands, preferably a nylon webbing. Amateur replicas will try to get away with cardboard as a support for the seat cushions.
5) The LC2 Loveseat should be upholstered with high quality aniline leather. Colored fabric is widely available, and can give the sofa a softer, brighter appeal if it is required for the interior design of the home or office; however, the LC2 two-seater sofa is traditionally covered in a 1-1.5mm thick black leather. A full grain leather with a matte finish provides a luxurious executive style, and white leather is an ideal choice for many spacious home interior designs.
6) The two top seat cushions should not be overly firm. The top two cushions will have a slight full-bodied appearance. The LC2 Loveseat should be filled with down feathers or a polyurethane and polyester blend.
7) The arms on the LC2 two-seater sofa are the same measurement as on the LC2 armchair: 5” (12.7cm) across.
8) The LC2 Loveseat is 25.4” (67.05cm) high and around 51.2” (13.04cm) wide. The LC2 Loveseat and the LC2 armchair are both 17” (43.18cm) from the bottom of the chair to the top of the seat cushion.
9) The glides on the bottom of the legs of the sofa are aligned with the edges of the steel, there is no overhang of the glider.
10) The LC2 Loveseat could weigh anywhere from 50 (22.67kg) to 80 lbs.(36.28kg) and will vary depending on the choice of leather and quality of the steel.
Le Corbusier’s LC2 Loveseat is a timeless two-seater sofa that embodies comfort and distinguished luxury within its arms. The LC1 Chair and the LC2 Loveseat will please any modern furniture enthusiast with its modern indulgence of affluent appeal. Following the ten tips listed above will help you distinguish a quality two-seater LC2 Loveseat from substandard versions. You can then be confident that you’ll be resting in the arms of designer sophistication after buying a quality LC2 Loveseat to join your modern furniture collection.

10 Tips for checking Quality of Le Corbusier LC2 Chair
The LC2 Chair epitomizes the ability of plump cushion comfort to contain itself in a rectilinear modern design with a strong geometric presence. The LC2 Chair by the modern designer Le Corbusier was created back in 1929, yet it wholly represents today’s modern furniture trends. This armchair is classically Bauhaus and International Style, devoid of ornamentation yet striking in design, massive yet minimalist, and most importantly, demonstrates the power of functionality and art in modern furniture design. LC2’s design embraces comfort; and the urge to make oneself comfortable in such a design is hardly restrainable. The LC2 Chair, particularly when combined with the LC2 Loveseat, is a practical and solid addition to any modern home furniture collection, and truly a distinguished furniture addition to any classic or modern office interior design. When buying the LC2 chair, be sure to scrutinize your purchase by following these 10 tips to help you choose a designer chair of the best quality:
1) The wedging of the side cushions by its steel frame is one of the most unique features of the LC2 Chair, and one of the easiest ways to distinguish a quality LC2 Chair from a poorly replicated design. The frame wedging affects the seat comfort, as well as its stability (and, of course, its appearance). The steel frame on poor quality replicas is not wedged far enough into the armchair, and there is no cushion extruding from the frame, rather it looks like a solid rectangle. A frame that is wedged too far into the chair, will provide an excessive puffiness and deter from the armchair’s linear elements.
2) Leather furniture enthusiasts delight in the LC2 chair’s strong leather personality. Anything except quality leather would deter from the chair’s distinguished appeal. An Italian aniline-dyed full grain leather would be of the highest quality. A thickness between 1 – 1.5mm is appropriate. The original LC2 has a matte finish, but soft leather finishes are very popular. Vinyl and lower quality leathers are not acceptable. Fabric upholstery is acceptable and widely available.
3) The seat cushions in the Le Corbusier’s LC2 Chair should not be a square piece of foam padding. A Polyurethane and polyester or down feather provides the comfort that is intended.
4) The top cushion is plumper than the firmer bottom cushion.
5) The arms of the LC2 armchair are 5” (12.7cm) across.
6) The frame should be flawless tubular high gauge steel that is chrome plated for optimal shine. A chromium plating of 25-35 mm is used for rust protection and to hide the joints. In a lower quality stainless steel version, the joints are visible.
7) The frame is also available in a matte or black glossy finish. However, the chrome frame adheres to the designer’s original medium.
8) The LC2 armchair as a width of 30” (76.2cm) facing the front of the chair (from left side to right side), and a width of 27.6” (70.10cm) on the side of the chair (from back to front). The side of the chair from steel frame to steel frame should be 22.4” (56.89cm). The height of the chair is 26.4” (67.05cm), and from the bottom to the top of the seat cushion it is 17” (43.18cm).
9) The bottom support of the seat should be tight strapping, and not cardboard.
10) The chair will weigh around 60 pounds (27.3kg).
The LC2 Chair is one of Le Corbusier’s most distinguished designs. Adding the LC2 chair to your modern furniture collection or your office interior design is sure to carry its distinguishing characters directly into your home of office. When you buy your LC2 chair, make sure you scrutinize the armchair with the above tips in mind to avoid buying an inferior product. You’ll be comfortable in your new LC2 Chair knowing that you bought the highest quality chair for your modern home.
